MUSIC
MONTHLY JAM & CONCERT – ALWAYS Click here for more info : http://www.shfotm.8m.com/
Q: What is SAM HOUSTON'S FRIENDS OF
TRADITIONAL MUSIC
("SHFOTM")?
A: SHFOTM is a non-profit corporation
organized to encourage the playing, singing, dancing and listening of
traditional acoustic "folk music" from various cultures. It includes,
but is not limited to, bluegrass, old time, Celtic, Cajun, blues, country,
cowboy, sea shanties, gospel singing, shaped note singing, contra dancing, folk
dancing, poetry, and story telling. IF IT IS NON-ELECTRIC OR NON-ROCK IT IS
LIKELY TO BE INCLUDED WITHIN THE TERM "FOLK".
Q: Where does SHFOTM meet? NOTE CHANGED INFO….
A: SHFOTM has moved to the Fine Arts Building (AKA Music Building) at the
Sam Houston State University Campus in Hunstville, TX. SHFOTM will have use of
the 2nd floor. (Same place that the Huntsville January Dulcimer
Retreat meets at.) There
are plenty of rooms for jamming. We will be hosting the concert in the Larger
Auditorium.
Q: I can't wait, when does SHFOTM get
together?
A: SHFOTM get together the fourth (4 th)
Saturday of each month (except for December which will be held on the 16 th
& April which will be held on the 21 st). Jams start at 4:00 but you are
welcome to come early if you wish. The concert open stage or sign up will start
around 7:00.
Q: HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
A: NOTHING! But donations are
appreciated. SHFOTM has some administration costs-mailing, phone calls,
advertising.
Q: Is there only one Jam session?
A: No. Hopefully you will find a group
playing the type of music you want to play or listen to.
Q: What overnight accommodations are available?
A: There are a number of motels in the area.
The SHSU University Hotel is a real bargain. Also there is camping at the
Huntsville State Park, a few miles outside of town, and you can pitch a tent on
the museum grounds. RVS are restricted to the parking lot. Or you can get real
friendly with someone from Huntsville!
Q: How about food?
A: Absolutely no duck hunting in the pond!
Unless you can catch one of the wild chickens in the cane break, you're out of
luck for food available on the grounds. But within walking distance are a
number of places to eat. Of course you free to bring food and eat on the
grounds.
Q: Is it ok if I have just one_________(fill
in you choice, "beer, wine or other alcohol spirits"?
A: NO. Any alcohol found
will be poured down your sound hole!

A: Mike McManus (936-293-8359) mmcmanus100@yahoo.com
