Bread and Jam

We’ve moved to second Sundays to avoid room scheduling conflicts at the church and because some first Sundays are holiday weekends.

"Bread and Jam" is a monthly open acoustic gospel jam session held on the second Sunday of each month at St. Timothy's United Methodist Church, 8787 N.Houston-Rosslyn Rd., Houston, TX. All acoustic instruments are welcome. We meet at 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM in the main fellowship hall. Please bring a non-perishable food item for the local area food pantry which the church helps to support. (That's the "Bread…" part.)

We use as our source material the "Simply Gospel…" series of books compiled by Maureen Sellers. These books are available in Houston at Melody Traditional Music and Harp Shoppe (Surf to this web page for their store info and online catalog: http://www.folkharp.com/ ). We are currently using Books 1, 2 and 3.  We also have a few songs which are "handouts" and we'll usually have a spare copy available.

Bread'n'Jam is NOT a worship service - dress casually and comfortably!

It is NOT a rehearsal - we just sit and pick and sing.

You don't have to play anything to be welcome - come and sing or just listen and pat your foot.

It is NOT a teaching lesson, but you'll probably learn something, in spite of yourself.

We frequently have mountain dulcimer, guitar, hammered duclimer, autoharp, flute, whistle, mandolin, banjo and fiddle to show up and play. We have yet to have an accordion player to show up, but we'd probably let one of those in, too.

How to get there….

Get yourself to the intersection of US 290 and Bingle Road on Houston's near northwest side. (It’s about 3 or so exits outbound from where 290 takes off from the 610 Loop)

Go NORTH on Bingle Road. Go through about 3 stoplights (first at Pinemont, then at W. Tidwell, and finally at W. Little York)

Then go on across W. Little York. At that point the street name changes to N. Houston-Rosslyn Rd. Continue straight on for about a half-mile.

St. Timothy's United Methodist is on the west side (the left side) of the road.

The church phone number is: 713-466-5500.

Special Note – Linda and Justin have moved to waaaaaay out into west Texas, but Bread’n’Jam continues at St. Timothy’s under the capable leadership of Peggy Johnson.  If you need to reach them – go to their website: http://www.justinandlinda.com .  (While you’re there, check out the sample sound clips of their CD, “Wayfaring Strangers”.)
